Fridump #1

The Fridump - Where I unleash all of the random thoughts from the past seven days.

So…

Yeah.

It’s hard to have something to say every day. I give credit to Tik Tok influencers and their ilk because it’s hard to find something to weigh in on multiple times a day. From what I heard, to be an active Tik Toker, you need at least 3 - 5 posts a day. I struggled to come up with that over a week. Granted, it doesn’t help that I hate my face and voice - I’m truly a man born to blog - but still, I can’t imagine churning out that much content a day. Although that does answer my question as to why there are so many people making random lists on Tik Tok. One list with a few WTF?! choices will generate responses and more fodder to fill the day.

Can Streaming Survive?

WB/Discovery CEO David Zaslav recently spoke out about how WB/Discovery is going to really make a push with their FAST service. FAST being Free Ad-Supported TV. So… cable TV?
While people are going crazy over FTX and how people should have seen it coming, should we start looking at all of these money-losing ventures that populate our lives? I’ve never really understood how Netflix could afford to spend 1 - 2 billion on new productions. The finances of entertainment don’t make sense. It’s one reason why I think, in the near future, the arts will go back to being a labor of love rather than a profession that can rake in the big bucks.

Mastodon or Mastodon’t?

I quit Twitter around Thanksgiving. Elon Musk fatigue. Not that quitting Twitter means I’ve stopped hearing about him. The guy knows how to keep his name in the press although, to be fair, the press also seems to use guys like him and Kanye to generate new content. Anyway, I joined Mastodon and I can’t say I’m a huge fan. For me, the biggest issue is that it doesn’t replicate one of Twitter’s biggest uses for me - a lot of times, I’d see something and I’d use Twitter as a search engine to look for an answer. For example, my brother and I were watching a football game and a guy had something weird connected to his helmet. My immediate instinct was to reach for my phone to look to Twitter to see if other people were commenting on it and maybe had an answer. Mastodon’s search doesn’t seem to be very useful at all. Then again, mayble I’m not on the right server or something. I don’t know. I’ll give Mastodon some more time but it feels to me like Ello, the supposed Facebook replacement that people flocked to and then never went back to, except to close their account.

If I’m undefeated at anything…
…it’s not noticing low health ratings at a restaurant until AFTER I’ve finished eating.

It’s a shame because Berkshire House was a pretty cool spot. Although I’ve become Goldilocks when it comes to sports bars. There are so many spots in LA that play games without the game audio on, which is kind of annoying although am I really missing anything? It’s not like most announcing teams are adding THAT much to the experience. On the other hand, places that do play the game audio often play it LOUD and I almost miss the places that forego the noise altogether. I still haven’t found a place that does it just right.
