Six Songs I Thought Would've Been Bigger

I’m honestly not sure how I stumbled upon most of these songs. 2022 was not a good year for me when it came to finding new music. I didn’t exactly do an exhaustive search for new artists but I also found my tastes diverging from the usual sites/playlists I go to try to find something new. But here are six songs that I pulled aside into my Songs of 2022 Spotify playlist (NOTE: I’ve now realized a bunch of these tunes came out before this year. Whoops.). These and ABCDEFU, which was already huge when I first heard it. I can’t say that I expect to have these in heavy rotation from here on out but they are songs that I thought deserved a bit more attention.

Dylan Fraser popped up on my Spotify Wrapped and I had no idea why. Then I remembered this little ditty that I’m kind of stunned didn’t get any love.

I just learned, while making this blog post, that this next song actually came out three years ago. It’s still only at 2.7k views on YouTube? Can someone give this the house remix it deserves?!

I completely get why this song flew under the radar but it’s just a nice, little ditty.

I legitimately thought Harry Stone broke out a while back. I was confusing him with Billy Rafoul (who had some success with “Acoustic”.)

I do not remember adding this song to my list but I get why I put it there; just another bubbly, chipper song.

So what say you? What songs did you think were going to blow up this year but stayed largely under the radar?

Not on this list are Matt Maeson and Dylan. They were probably my Most Listened To new-ish artists of 2022 and neither really achieved the heights that I expected although, to be honest, both artists have issues that I think are holding them back. In Maeson’s case, I feel like a lot of his songs are just a bit too repetitive. I still really like them but I kind of always wish they had one more verse in them. As for Dylan - who did get some shine as an opener for Harry Styles this year - I feel like she’s being overproduced. Her songs are kind of produced like modern Gwen Stefani and they should probably have a little more edge like No Doubt. But the BBC just put her on their list of 2023 breakout artists so maybe next year will be her year.
